Site Software Update Process Overview

The software update process is as follows:
  1. Navigate to the Software Update page using "System > Software Update".
  2. Select source. "Web" is easier but you require Internet access. "Folder" requires that you pre-obtain the update files and that you specify a folder where the files are located.
  3. Click "Check for Software Update" to determine if an update is necessary.
  4. If so, "Download and Install Files" to proceed with the update.
  5. Wait for confirmation.

Note that the software update process will automatically stop the "TrillysCdrService", copy the downloaded files to the working folder and restart "TrillysCdrService" and "SiteAdminVcl".

IMPORTANT: Before updating the software, it is recommended that you copy the working folder into a backup folder. Consult with the release notes to determine the sequence of updates CDRv5 Client(s) vs. CDRv5 Server.

Configuration

Before proceeding with software update, you must ensure that you either are connected to the configured URL (Internet) OR that you have access to a file folder where the updated software is located.

To check the Web access configuration, use "Configuration > Connectivity" and locate the "Software Update Web Site" section. Ensure the URL is correct.

Software Update Page

Navigate to the software update page using "System > Software Update".

Step 1 – Check Software Status
After selecting a source for the updated files, click on "Check for Software Update". The system will download the latest manifest file, compare the latest file versions against your current installation and display the results in a grid. The left column provides the file state:

means the file is missing and needs to be downloaded;

means the file is up-to-date and does not need to be downloaded;

means the file is out-of-date and needs to be downloaded.

You can change the state by clicking on the icon. The state will toggle from "Missing/Out-of-Date" to "Up-to-date" and from "Up-to-date" to "Out-of-date". You can use this feature to force or prevent a download.

Step 2 – Download and Install Files
After clicking "Download and Install Files", the system will attempt to download the files marked as "missing" or "out-of-date". The filename currently being downloaded is displayed below the button. As files are downloaded, the grid is updated showing the global results. Note the following icons under the "State" column in the grid:

means the download is successful;

means the download failed.

If any files failed to download, the system will ask you if you want to continue with the update. If you have any doubts, do not proceed. If the failed downloads are for "RTF" or text files, the impact is likely unimportant. However, if the missing files are for "EXE", "BPL", or "DLL", the impact may prevent the system from working properly and you should not proceed and report the problem.

If you proceed, or if the system did not detect a download error, a restart ("Run as Administrator") will occur and you will see a Windows User Account Control message to allow the program to run. Please proceed. The software update will complete and ensure the system is working properly. In case of problems, follow these simple steps:

  • Using Windows Service manage, stop TrillysCdrService (if is it running).
  • Restore the backup folder into the working folder. If you don’t have a backup, re-install the original software into the working folder.
Quick Update

The quick update feature provides a simplified process to perform software updates. It hides the complexity of the update process. To use it, click on the menu "Tasks > Update Software".

Wait for the process to complete. The application will re-start automatically. If a download problem occurs, you will be prompted to continue. It is recommended to answer "No" and navigate the to the software update page using "System > Software Update". Then try again and determine the source of the problem.
